This class focuses on developing individual styles by offering a diverse range of handbuilding techniques. Students will expand on basic skills by learning how to use unusual forms and altering methods in both non-functional and functional work. The instructor will provide alternative approaches to glazing, which includes understanding underglazes and their uses. Students will be encouraged to explore colorful and painterly surfaces and experiment with different clay bodies. All levels will develop at their own pace in a supportive environment.

CLASS FULL - Ceramics Studio: Handbuilding & Wheel Throwing (all levels)

This course will cover basic handbuilding and wheel throwing skills.  Let’s discover what method is most suited to create the work that best pleases your aesthetic sensibility.  Both wheel throwing and handbuilding demonstrations will be given. There will be one-on-one attention for those of you pursuing a more advanced agenda. This will be an engaging experience for beginniing and beyond artists looking to work in ceramics.

Registration for this class begins on Tuesday, March 3 at 10:00am. *Please note that registration for all adult ceramic classes will be either in person or by phone only. Priority will be given to in-person registrations.

SUMMER: Ceramics (ages 6-9)

Learn basic pottery techniques: handbuilding, glazing and decoration. Individual instruction is provided with emphasis on developing the child’s creative imagination. Slab, coil and pinch pot projects will be among the techniques explored. Materials and firing fees included.

Teen Wheel Throwing (ages 13-17)

Explore the process of painting still life and landscape paintings! Learn the basics of toning the canvas, drawing a composition, mixing colors, and various ways of applying paint. Demonstrations, individual critiques, and examples of famous artists’ works will be shown. This class is suitable for all levels. A materials list will be sent upon registration.
