Metal Clay is an exciting medium that begins as a suspension of tiny particles of silver in an organic clay binder. This course enables students with little or no jewelry-making experience to begin producing fine silver jewelry on their own. Learn the skills necessary to form, fire, and finish PMC, producing earrings or a pendant.

Join WestchesterArts grantee, artist/Rockland Center for the Arts Instructor John Rosis for this free workshop at Rockland Center for the Arts. Participants will learn the basics of printmaking using a gel plate to create finished prints, greeting cards, bookmarks, decorative paper for collage and more using quick drying water-based acrylic paint.
Demonstrations will include monoprinting techniques using paper stencils made in the workshop, string, thread, rubber bands and other materials in this ‘make and take’ workshop. We will also use natural materials such as leaves, ferns, grasses and vines as masks and textures. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is necessary, just an interest in discovering this unique, fun and easy way to make prints with minimal set up time.
Capacity is limited to ten participants for this workshop. Participants should arrive on or before start time as instruction is provided at the beginning of the workshop. All are welcome: ages 16 and up. Please wear appropriate clothing and/or an apron for using paints.
Represented by Gerald Bland Inc. in New York City, John Rosis is an accomplished artist and instructor with a notable career spanning decades. He currently teaches at the Rockland Center for the Arts since 1999, and previously taught at the State University of New York and the Art Students League in New York.
His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including early 1980s shows in the East Village, NYC. Recent group exhibitions include the 2024 Rockland Center for the Arts benefit, the Garrison Art Center Benefit in New York, and Kino Saito benefit in Verplanck, New York. His work has also been part of exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Kino Saito benefit in Verplanck, New York. In addition to his group exhibitions, John Rosis has held several solo exhibitions, including notable shows at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and Westchester College in New York.
John Rosis earned his Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College in 1990 and has received prestigious awards throughout his career, including grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, the Wurlitzer Foundation and Artists Space, New York. His work is part of numerous private and public collections including the New York University Children’s Hospital and the Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas.

Learn how to use the cyanotype process to produce distinctive blue images by using sunlight. During this workshop, participants will learn how to mix and apply chemistry to paper and print unique cyanotypes using a sunlight exposure. This workshop is open to adults at all levels. Most materials will be provided, but participants should bring the following supplies: at least two watercolor or printmaking papers (size 8"x10" or smaller), pencil, tape, scissor/cutter and latex gloves. No experience needed!
