Colored pencils are a rich, flexible medium.  This class provides an exciting and innovative environment for the exploration of non-toxic, water-soluble colored pencils.  The fundamentals and technical aspects of rendering in color will be explained . . . Wheel Throwing (beg./int.)

For beginners or for those who want to improve their wheel throwing and/or handbuilding skills.  An overview of the entire ceramic process will be introduced, including glazing and firing techniques.

Advanced Claywork

For serious wheel throwing and handbuilding students who wish to continue to improve their skills in a structured and supportive atmosphere.  Both group and individual instruction are emphasized. This course will include one alternative firing to be determined by the group. All-inclusive critiques of both work in progress and finished work will be scheduled during class time periodically. Students will formulate glaze texts as a part of the class.  Please bring a notebook to the first class.

Lampworked Glass Beads Workshop

Stephanie Maddalena     $135 (plus $35 material fee)

Learn the Venetian art of glass bead making.  Make unique beads by melting glass rods with an oxygen/propane torch.  Learn to shape the glass and decorate it to customize your beads. It’s addictive!

Moving Toward Abstraction (all levels)

Learn how to add a dynamic quality to your paintings with an understanding of abstraction. Compose your work by breaking images down to the most abstract elements. Understand plasticity, push and pull, and how color can work for you. Students will learn to use color and compose with a still life. We will also view and discuss many of the artists in history who have left glorious examples for us to study and enjoy.  Materials: all materials welcome. Explore the process of painting still life and landscape paintings! Learn the basics of toning the canvas, drawing a composition, mixing colors, and various ways of applying paint. Wheel Throwing Workshop for Families (ages 9 to adult)

Don't you sometimes wish you could try wheel throwing without enrolling in a full class? Well, here is the chance for families or couples to learn ceramics together. It is recommended for children to be in the 4th grade or older and accompanied by an adult. Materials and firing fees included.

CLASS FULL - Ceramics Studio: Handbuilding & Wheel Throwing (all levels)

This course will cover basic handbuilding and wheel throwing skills.  Let’s discover what method is most suited to create the work that best pleases your aesthetic sensibility.  Both wheel throwing and handbuilding demonstrations will be given. There will be one-on-one attention for those of you pursuing a more advanced agenda. This will be an engaging experience for beginniing and beyond artists looking to work in ceramics.
