Wheel Throwing for Beginners

Jim Shaughnessy     $275/$265 senior, plus $50 clay/firing fee (per brick)

This small class focuses on demonstrations and one-on-one instruction beginner instruction. Students learn to throw on the wheel to create beautiful pots for the table, kitchen, and garden. Students will be introduced to a range of decorating techniques using slips, wax resist, glazes, and on-glaze painting. Enrollment is limited to 7.

Creative Clay (all levels)

Marlene Krumm Sanders       $275/$265 senior, plus $50 clay/firing fee (per brick)

This class focuses on developing individual styles by offering a diverse range of handbuilding techniques. Students will expand on basic skills by learning how to use unusual forms and altering methods in both non-functional and functional work. The instructor will provide alternative approaches to glazing, which includes understanding underglazes and their uses. Students will be encouraged to explore colorful and painterly surfaces and experiment with different clay bodies. All levels will develop at their own pace in a supportive environment.

Drawing in Color (advanced beginner–advanced)

Paula Madawick $235 / seniors $225, plus $10 materials  fee

Colored pencils are a rich, flexible medium.  This class provides an exciting and innovative environment for the exploration of non-toxic, water-soluble colored pencils.  The fundamentals and technical aspects of rendering in color will be explained . . . Emphasis is placed on developing your application of this medium.  This class is designed for all levels of experience and proficiency. Join us!  A materials list will be sent upon registration.

For beginners or for those who want to improve their wheel throwing and/or handbuilding skills.  An overview of the entire ceramic process will be introduced, including glazing and firing techniques.

Advanced Claywork
Wendy Morris                        $275/$265 senior, plus $50 clay/firing fee (per brick)

For serious wheel throwing and handbuilding students who wish to continue to improve their skills in a structured and supportive atmosphere.  Both group and individual instruction are emphasized. This course will include one alternative firing to be determined by the group. All-inclusive critiques of both work in progress and finished work will be scheduled during class time periodically. Students will formulate glaze texts as a part of the class.  Please bring a notebook to the first class.

A creative approach to the art of pottery.  Discover new techniques while learning the basics of handbuilding and tilemaking. The emphasis is on developing individual projects and styles.

Ceramics (ages 6-9)

Colleen Vanderhoef $150

Learn basic pottery techniques: handbuilding, glazing and decoration. Individual instruction is provided with emphasis on developing the child’s creative imagination. Slab, coil and pinch pot projects will be among the techniques explored. Materials and firing fees included.

Lampworked Glass Beads Workshop

Stephanie Maddalena     $135 (plus $35 material fee)

Learn the Venetian art of glass bead making.  Make unique beads by melting glass rods with an oxygen/propane torch.  Learn to shape the glass and decorate it to customize your beads. It’s addictive!

Claymation (ages 8-11)

Kanitra Perrault                      $175 (plus $15 materials fee)

Claymation, or clay animation, is a type of stop-motion animation that uses frame-by-frame images to capture the motion of clay figures. In this exciting mixed media studio workshop, children will write the story, create and construct characters, design sets and photograph scenes. . . .
