The Burning of New York

The Burning of New York is a two-act drama based on the true story of The Great Conspiracy of 1741. Over several days in the spring of that year, a series of mysterious fires swept through lower Manhattan, creating panic throughout the City. After a brief trial in Westchester County, dozens were found guilty of an alleged slave revolt, resulting in a mass lynching of 30 individuals on Wall Street.

A play reading by Shades Repertory Theater, written and directed by Samuel Harps. In partnership with The Gordon Center for Black Culture and Arts.
