This class is for individuals with basic experience, looking to get back into watercolor painting. Each session, the instructor will break down the basic techniques of watercolors in a relaxed environment with plenty of hands-on instruction with watercolor artist, Jayne Conte.

This class is for individuals with basic experience, looking to get back into watercolor painting. Each session, the instructor will break down the basic techniques of watercolors in a relaxed environment with plenty of hands-on instruction. Watercolor artist, Jayne Conte, combines years of experience and a passion for art in her class. She helps intermediate painters create true works of art. Each week the class will dive into a new painting, with Jayne demonstrating as the class follows suit. Students do have the option of working on personal pieces.

Materials List:

Paper:

A pad of watercolor paper-140 lb. cold press or sheets of watercolor paper that can be cut into smaller sheets. Arches or any professional quality paper is good.

(Good paper produces better watercolor paintings)

Brushes:

Traditional watercolor brushes have short handles:

  • 3 round brushes (a #1 or #2) (a #6 or #8) (a # 12 or #14)
  • One ¾” flat brush or one 1” inch flat brush.
  • Rigger brush or Liner (a #2 or #3)
  • (Princeton and Loew-Cornell are good medium-priced brushes)

Paints:

Tube paints:

Suggested brands Windsor & Newton, Cotman or Grumbacher

Student grade. (Better paints produce better watercolor paintings).

  • Cadmium Red
  • Cadmium Yellow or Windsor Yellow
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Dioxazine purple
  • Cobalt blue
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Hooker green and/or Sap Green
  • Paynes Grey
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Sepia

Optional colors might include:

  • Permanent Rose (optional)
  • Cadmium Orange (optional)
  • Lemon Yellow (optional)
  • Cerulean Blue (optional)
  • Indigo (optional)
  • Prussian Blue (optional)
  • Black

All the Rest:

  • Paper towels, large container to hold water, small spray bottle.
  • Pencil for sketching and eraser (Kneaded eraser is good).
  • A roll of masking tape.
  • Palette (to mix paints on) plastic one will do. White disposable plate 9” or bigger can be used in the palette also.
  • A board larger than your paper to tape your paper on (Lightweight materials such as foam core, or even strong cardboard).
  • Masking fluid (optional).

All materials can be bought at Michaels, Dick Blick or any online art store. Look for the coupons and specials
