John Rosis $215 / $205 seniors; plus $40 materials fee
Learn the basics of printmaking! Types of prints include: glue-plate printing, trace monotype, plate prints, movable and fixed-shape collagraph prints (which is a collage-based technique) and basic monoprints. . . . Abstract and realistic images may be employed. Class includes: demonstrations and examples of completed prints and techniques. Students should bring in reference photographs, magazines, drawings, photocopies, and newspaper images to work from. Group and individual instruction will be provided.
. . . . For safety reasons, etching techniques with acids, oil-based printing inks and razor knives will not be used in class.
Materials to be provided, and include: 70lb white paper, up to 5 sheets of professional printmaking paper, water-based inks, ink rollers, Elmer’s glue, scissors, 8” x 10” plexi-glass printing plates. A small press will be provided which will be able to make prints up to 10 ½” by 16”. Students will also learn to print by hand using brayers and wooden spoon techniques. Students are encouraged to keep a journal to record ideas, printing techniques, drawings and images.
Other materials will be reviewed in class for students wishing to use specialty supplies and techniques.

Demonstrations will include printing multiple times to create layers of imagery and combining printmaking techniques. Abstract and realistic images may be employed. Class includes: demonstrations and examples of completed prints and techniques. Students should bring in reference photographs, magazines, drawings, photocopies, and newspaper images to work from. Group and individual instruction will be provided.
