The participating artists are: Joel Carreiro & Allyson Spellacy, Murray Zimiles & Stephen Churchill, John Beerman & David Spatz, Sylvia Roth & Lauren Orchowski and photographer Eileen Brady Nelson and her students Max Lovrin, Leslie Merinoff, James Molloy, Olivia Turrell, Dicky Tsomo, Brady Nelson Daniel Fisher.

Lynn Stein, Daly Flanagan & William Sayles, curated the exhibition. "The exhibit is about so much more than the individual pieces, it's really about the energy between these artists, a meeting of the spirit & mutual respect," says Lynn Stein.

ARTIST'S BIOS ::

Joel Carreiro, "Peter Pan"
Heat transfer on wood 48"x72"

Allyson Spellacy
Installation "Hasta"

Carreiro | Spellacy

Joel Carreiro and Allyson Spellacy met at the Hunter MFA program where Carreiro is
a professor. Carreiro describes his teaching style as the "Smokey the Bear Approach"
where the teacher gets out of the way and doesn't disturb the forest. Spellacy describes
the relationship as equal parts argumentative, crafty, ambitious and witty. The two-way
street that began as a professor/student exchange has evolved into a collaborative banter
that plays out more like a game of bumper cars where each dares the other to hit a little harder before their money runs out.

Murray Zimiles
"10 Pigs"
48" x 48"

Stephen Churchill, "Alter to Him"
Paper and pigment

Zimiles | Churchill

Do great teachers really teach their students or do they simply show them how to unleash the fire within themselves? In the case of SUNY/Purchase Professor Murray Zimiles, creator of
The Book of Fire; passion, excellence and digging down deep is what papermaking sculptor Stephen Churchill learned. Zimiles' door is always open to his students. Churchill credits Zimiles for being a compassionate listener and inspirational on such a profound level that
they will be linked forever.

John Beerman, "White Clouds, M.V." 2003 36"x36", oil on linen

David Spatz, "Jenny"
31"x 24" oil on canvas

Beerman | Spatz......

Painters John Beerman & David Spatz share a relationship reminiscent of a master
craftsmen & student. These artists share an affinity for the paint, the touch, the feel and
finish of the painted surface that is deep and heartfelt. Spatz has been inspired by Beerman's compelling color choices and process, which is an intense investigation that uses color charts and written notes on site. Spatz has bought Beerman into the 21st century by introducing him to the digital camera. Spatz, who is always struggling to find the time to paint because of the responsibilities of work and family, finds support in Beerman's philosophy that "family more than makes up for the struggle by the richness it adds to the work."

Sylvia Roth "White Amaryllis" 1992 40"x30" Monotype

Lauren Orchowski "Frozen Food Cathedral", Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

.........Roth | Orchowski

Sylvia Roth is a Master printmaker and founder of the prestigious etching atelier, Hudson River Editions. Her protege, photographer Lauren Orchowski, has become an integral part of Roth's business and artistic family life . Roth lives with son-in-law, painter John Beerman. Orchowski has learned through example the value of patience, strong family and the importance of truly enjoying oneself on a daily basis. " Art, like life, is an everyday business," says Roth, and Orchowski agrees.

Fine art photographer, Eileen Nelson Brady, has had a relationship with most of her
students since they were toddlers. In the early years they were the subjects of her beautiful photographs. This inquisitive group of young people grew into Brady Nelsons students
learning the traditional and non-traditional craft of photography.

As part of ARTISTS UNDER THE INFLUENCE the students will collaborate on an installation entitled Domicile. The teens have created a room that is symbolic of their personal sacred space where they can escape the stresses of growing up and just "be." Domicile will consist
of blackboard walls covered in original poems, photographs, a cyanotype mural and other photo props created by the teens.

On exhibit will also be a selection Brady Nelsons photographs of the teens
at work through the years.
