Painting and Drawing | Beginner
F14 12 sessions starting Mon. Sept. 13 9:00am-12:00pm
For the beginner or for those who want opportunities for growth, this course explores the fundamentals of drawing and painting. A wide variety of subjects, textures and lighting effects will be used to enhance perceptions and skills. Problems in color and composition will also be presented through set-ups with flowers, still life, and costumed models. Painters using all media, at all levels, are welcome. A materials list will be sent upon registration. This class is open to high school students.

NEW | Learn How to Paint Fast and Bold

Discover the joy of painting! This is a class for painters who want to loosen up and learn a fun, expressive way to paint. You will learn a step-by-step method of painting a simple still life using big brushes, lots of paint, working in a bold, expressive manner. You will quickly see that "it's not about WHAT you paint, it's about HOW you paint it." The most common everyday objects can become a work of art, when you paint them according to this method. The focus will be on capturing the large shapes and lighting effects rather than rendering small details. Students will be encouraged to work quickly and decisively with as few brush strokes as possible. All will be prompted to use color intuitively and boldly. The class atmosphere is non-judgmental -- all skill levels are welcomed and supported. A materials list will be sent upon registration

New | Abstract Painting | All Levels
F05 10 sessions starting Sep. 15 7:30-10:00pm
Students will paint in class and receive individual instruction and group critiques. Instruction includes traditional and experimental use of materials and techniques. Emphasis will be placed on using line, form, space, color, and texture, to create abstract compositions. Students should have some previous experience in painting. Students should also come to the first class ready to work with acrylic paint, brushes, and stretchers – working large (3’ x 3’ or larger) is encouraged!

Drawing the Human Figure | All Levels

This class is designed to encourage the development of individual representational style and is suitable for artists of all levels. This class will focus on extensive individual attention in a relaxed, non-judgmental working environment. This course is an excellent resource for art school portfolio preparation. Old friends and newcomers alike will enjoy the professional, non judgmental atmosphere which enables artists to explore and develop their own individual style and work. Landscape Painting | All Levels | All Media

Learn the art of painting landscapes. The entire painting process is covered, from the application of the medium, to achieving clean color, good value relationships and balanced compositions. Special attention is placed on learning to see masses as opposed to line, andred form rather than detail.  Focus is on how to accurately simplify the colors and values of the main shapes. Advanced Painting Studio

This studio course is for advanced students committed to developing a consistent body of work who will produce work independently. This workshop is for intermediate to advanced students who are seeking ways to improve their skills while creating well-realized paintings that continue to evolve. The instructor will provide one-on-one critiques on a regular basis. Students are encouraged to experiment with a wide variety of media and applications. The goal of this studio course is to help the artist to more clearly discover and define the possibilities present in their paintings. A materials list will be sent upon registration.

ArtStart | An Intro to Drawing
F10 12 sessions starting Mon. Sept. 13 1:00–4:00pm
Just starting out or returning to art, this class is designed for you. In a friendly atmosphere, with graphite pencils and paper, students will explore composition, perspective, value and intensity. During the second six weeks of class, students will investigate color with colored pencils, combining the knowledge from the first weeks for an exciting Art Start. A list of inexpensive materials has been designed to give the most for the cost, using many of the same supplies for both drawing mediums. This class is appropriate for beginners and intermediates, yet all levels are welcome.

NEW | Nature Subjects in Watercolor

Learn watercolor painting depicting found objects from nature. Watercolor is a wonderful technique to learn in the fall and winter, with its spectacular colors of fallen leaves and the subtle earth tones of winter. Focus will be on form, color, and techniques, such as pale and bold layers of washes, and dry brush. Each student will be encouraged to focus on subjects and techniques of choice, and how to mix colors using a limited palette. A materials list will be sent upon registration and it is recommended that brushes be purchased from the instructor.

The Art of Pastel
F22 12 sessions starting Tues. Sept. 21 6:30-9:30pm
Pastel is one of the purest of the mediums and this class will concentrate on its unique qualities.  Many great artists such as Degas and Toulouse Lautrec used pastels, either for color studies or finished pieces, We will explore the different ways to use pastels, and pastel pencils. Students will also learn how to keep the colors clean and how to layer colors.  We will work on different projects in class and will learn to use pastels in new and exciting ways.  All levels welcome.  A materials list will be sent upon registration.
