Quick Overview

NEW! Practical and Professional Development for Creatives

This course will teach you what you need to know to brand, market, and sell yourself as a creative professional. We will learn how to write an artist statement, biography, and resume. We will develop a portfolio that can be submitted to galleries, schools, artist residency applications, competitions, social media, and to potential employers and patrons. Once we have created a resume, biography, and portfolio, we will then learn how to create a website using free/low cost platforms and market on social media. Finally, we will learn the practical business side of selling art- pricing, sales and licensing contracts, display agreements, and much more. This class is designed for both students and seasoned artists.

Part 1: Branding, marketing, and website creation

We will work on defining you as a creative professional. Things we will consider in this class include-the medium we create with, where we find inspiration, and what makes our style unique. Learn how to create a website using free or inexpensive platforms as well as a presence on social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google +, and YouTube.

Part 2: Portfolio development, gallery submission, pricing and selling

We will work on streamlining your portfolio so that it is marketable to galleries, schools, artist residency applications, competitions, social media, and to potential employers and patrons. You will learn how to select a body of work that best represents you, create themes within your portfolio, write a resume and create a visual resume. We will discuss how to price our work, and other ways to optimize the salability of our work.
