Sana Musasama travels the globe helping communities by teaching them to heal using art. Her life and art are guided by social consciousness, humanitarian activism, and meaningful interaction with people of many cultures. As an artist who is desires to do her part in changing the world, Sana does not travel as a tourist but rather befriends and lives with people of different countries. She believes artists have a heightened sensitivity to see and we must go beyond our comfort zone in order to expand and push out to something uncertain. This talk will explore her travels, her inspiration, and the inhumanity she has witnessed: from female genital mutilation, girl soldiers, and the sex trade traffic. Each year she travels to Cambodia to work with women and girls rescued from the sex trade. She uses art to heal by introducing them to employable skills based on sustainability. Their lives are transformed through art.
This artist talk is in conjunction with RoCA’s exhibition: In Form: Contemporary Sculptural Ceramics, on view Oct. 9 through Nov. 30, 2016.
The event is free to the public.
