Sculpture In The Park | RED IS EVERYWHERE 2005 - 2006 ::

Curator :: Eric Laxman

The outdoor sculpture component of "Red is Everywhere" will explore the use of the color red in a wide range of sculptural expressions. The artists chosen represent many different aesthetics and materials. Many of the artists have created site-specific installations. With large open areas, natural paths through the woods and undulating hills and areas close to the center it is possible to see sculpture in relation to both the natural and man-made environment.

The participating artists are ::
Noel DeGaetano, Simon Draper, Joan Harmon, Robert Loebell, Anthony Krauss, Wilfredo Morel, Juan Nickford, Roni Nicholson, Stuart Sachs, Andrea Stanislav, Francesca Samsel, Eric Stein, Andre Voumard, Gabriel Warren, Lydia Viscardi, Cathrin Hoskinson, Shelley Parriott, Vince Schifano, Paul Sisko, Steed Taylor.

Shelley Parriott ::
Color Field Sculpture:
Red Maze 2

Shelley Parriott's sculpture has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. From miniature interior wall pieces to large scale site-specific installations, Parriott's work speaks of the dichotomy between our physical and spiritual aspects - material / immaterial, being/ non-being, and the transitory nature of form.

Parriott's Color Field Sculpture is monumental in size and visual impact, yet illusory. Mysterious shimmering nuances recall the color washes of Helen Frankenthaler, or Morris Louis' airy chromatic veils. At once corporeal and ephemeral, polychromes of transparent steel mesh are layered to create prismatic patterns of color and light as sunlight reveals one tinted form appearing and transitioning behind another.

Vincent Schifano ::
Centurian
Painted Steel (red)
72"h X 30"w X 30"d

Vincent Schifano, a Dobbs Ferry resident, and a graduate of Pratt Institute is both a graphic designer and sculptor. This background was essential to his making of sculpture because it enabled him to combine vision, creativity, and the understanding of form with skill and precision. His sculpture while at times playful, also deals with formalist issues which are informed by fragments of things he has seen, the material itself or are about relationship of forms to the environment.

Paul Sisko ::
Interlocking Tubes
8' x 4"

Much of Paul Sisko's sculpture of the past 30 years has related to a series of separations or cutouts and the concept of giving metal a look of softness or tension. Starting with a basic geometric shape, I attempt to visually change the piece by partial or complete separation along with the process of bending, twisting, crushing or tearing. Whether in large-scale monumental commissions or smaller more intimate sculptures and furniture, Sisko's commitment to precision and craftsmanship is evident. His work can be found in the collections of many college campuses and sculpture parks.

Steed Taylor ::
Road Tattoos

Steed Taylor's Road Tattoos's are an investigation of how personal emotional significance can be placed in a public space and how this emotional resonance can be manifested in public artwork. For Taylor Roads are the skin of the community and the ritual marking of a road or public body is akin to the ritual marking of a persons skin or private body. Road Tattoos are placed at locations of personal significance and are composed of cultural designs previously appropriated to mark skin.

A resident of NYC, some locations of Taylor's recent Road Tattoos include the Maxwell Fine Arts Gallery in Peekskill, NY, The Arts Center at the Capital Region in Troy, NY and near the Hudson River in Newburgh, NY.
