Recent paintings on glass by
John Rosis
January
23 - February 27, 2005
Curator ::
Joel Carreiro
Rockland Center for the Arts
is pleased to present Nyack artist John Rosis in a
solo exhibition in gallery ONE entitled "Calibration
& Contingency - recent paintings on glass by John
Rosis" curated by Joel Carriero, Fine Arts Graduate
Advisor at Hunter College in New York City.
Calibration & Contingency features
Rosis's small-scale abstract paintings in the reverse
painting on glass technique. The artist derives abstract
images and colors from the surrounding New York State
landscape. Rosis refers playfully to the juxtaposition
of distant views found in nature and its depiction
on
a small-scale. Each painting is presented in a specially
made frame by the artist, which allows
the edges of the glass to be exposed to create a "floating"
effect.
An essay on the artist's work
by Gabriel de Guzman, Fine Arts Associate at the Jewish
Museum in New York City will accompany the exhibit.
John Rosis is an instructor at Rockland Center for
the Arts and appears courtesy of Paul Sharpe Contemporary
Art NYC.
