A Sequence of Steps:
An Elizabeth Knowles Installation

Opening: Sunday, March 4, 1-4pm

Curator: Lynn Stein
March 4 - April 29, 2007

RoCA will present "A Sequence of Steps", an exhibition of the work of Elizabeth Knowles, with an opening reception on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 1 - 4pm.

A SEQUENCE OF STEPS is a site-specific installation located in Gallery One depicting a spiral shaped photographic journey based upon the Fibonacci numeric sequence. The process of creating the spiral consists of my taking 1 step to the north in the center of the room and taking 1 photograph from that vantage point. Then, following the sequence, I take 1 step west and shoot 1 photograph from that viewpoint. Next, I take 2 steps to the south and shoot 2 photographs, 3 steps to the east and shoot 3 photographs, 5 steps to the north and shoot 5 photographs and so on.

The spiral continues into the reception area where it shifts into another spiral formed from the Fibonacci sequence. Footprints and shadows are cut out of this spiral as it migrates over the walls and through space.
