JiffY
PoP
::
March 4
- April

curator Lynn
Stein
JiffY
PoP celebrates the landscape
of our consumer driven society that bombards us with
symbols, logos and marketing images, filled with promises
of a better life by acquiring "stuff". The
exhibition focuses on artwork that specifically references
the lexicon of consumer images, updating and reinventing
what the Pop Art Movement of the 60's began.

Justin
Faunce
Justin
Faunce's (New York City) technique is one of obsessive
precision. Using a method of meticulous stenciling
and applying layers of paint Faunce assembles an
enormous array of found images both familiar and
obscure.
Justin
Faunce at the young age of 25 had a solo exhibition
entitled "Thanks for the Memories" in 2005 at Leo
Koenig Inc. in NYC. He has also participated in
group exhibitions in several New York locations
as well as in Vienna, Austria. He studied at the
School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and

Bandrider l: Jennifer
Lopez Installations with found objects (2002-2007)
In
this series, the McCoys create contemporary portraiture
projects by visualizing music industry contract requirements
for celebrity appearances. Taken from internet sources
such as The Smoking Gun, these contracts call to mind
Andy Warhol's famous observation that one can in fact
drink an exact replica of the same can of Coca-Cola
that Elizabeth Taylor might enjoy.

The
McCoys have been exhibiting as a team since 1996,
integrating sculptures and projections. They have
had solo exhibitions in New York, Switzerland, the
UK, Belgium and Italy and numerous group exhibitions
in galleries all over the globe. They have received
Fellowships and Grants from the Colbert Foundation,
Creative Capital, the Experimental Television Center,
and the Alternative Museum. They both hold MFA's from
Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute in Electronic Arts.
The McCoys are represented by Postmasters Gallery,
New York, Gallerie Guy Bartschi, Geneva, and 1000eventi,
Milan.

Vandana
Jain
Vandana
Jain (Brooklyn, NY) is driven by a desire to comprehend
and personalize Western capitalist culture. "I
reconfigure logos, slogans, wrappers and packaging
to create individualized meanings that are distinct
from intended functional meanings", says Jain.
Jain
recently exhibited work in the Jersey City Museum,
NJ; Soap Factory in Minneapolis, MN; Toronto Free
Gallery in Toronto, Canada; and many locations in
Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. She received the
Artists in the Marketplace Award in 2004 from the

Pierre
Obando ::
Pierre
Obando's (Queens, NY) appropriated imagery comes from
his direct personal encounters with products that
have made an impression on him. His paintings and
drawings of Coca-Cola and Evian trademarks without
the text reminds us how desensitized we are from the
persistent media image bombardment.
Obando
was born in Belize. He received a BFA in Painting
from the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL;
and an MFA in Painting from Hunter College in New
York. Obando has exhibited at the Queens Museum of
Art in Queens, NY, and Sixty-seven in Brooklyn, NY.
His work will next be seen as part of a group exhibition
entitled "Things Fall Apart" at Rush Arts Gallery
in NYC.

Peter
Artin
::
Peter
Artin (Nyack, NY) is an emerging artist whose silk
screening technique produces a spontaneous and painterly
surface. "The GE and Westinghouse logos are,
in my mind, two of the most beautiful and timeless
trademarks in America" says Artin. His work is meant
to celebrate the contradictory nature of the duality
and singularity of these two iconic entities.
Artin
is familiar to the NYC and Hudson Valley art scene
for his excellence as a gallery installation specialist.
He has extensive experience with audio and video production,
including work as a set designer and lighting technician
for the Provincetown Theater Company in MA, and as
an Audiovisual Technician at Alfred University. He
has worked for several years as a freelance art gallery
preparator, managing all aspects of installation and
de-installation of exhibits and performances.
