Gallery ONE ::
Portrait collections: Nights always have been long and good

Opening: Sunday, October 12, 1 - 4pm

curator Lynn Stein
October 12 - December 21, 2008

RoCA is proud to present Haegeen Kim in a one-person exhibition, portrait collections: nights always have been long and good in Gallery One. Using pencil, charcoal, pastel, gouache and watercolor on paper, Kim creates playful and intense portraits of unknown and known artists. Her greatest influence comes from the Flemish painter, Hans Memling's and portrait paintings of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. Ever since she came across a book containing collections of portrait paintings from the Joseon Dynasty, these portraits have forever lingered in her head and become a continuous source of inspiration for her work.

Kim uses personal photographs, other photo documentation, fashion magazines, gossip magazines, comics and portraits by old masters to create her drawings. Her techniques of subtle and vivid details are used to portray individuals with an insightful twist.
