EVOLVING
IDENTITIES ::
Brazilian Artists in New
York
Curator:
Carole Perry
March
5 - April 27, 2006
"Evolving
Identities - Brazilian Artists in New York,"
will feature artists Ana
Linnemann,
Thessia
Machado,
Vik
Muniz,
and
Janaina
Tschäpe,
who all grew up primarily in Brazil and moved
to New York as adults. Their work reveals the
influence of their Brazilian roots and their individual
efforts to resolve the conflicts inherent in their
multi-cultural identities. While their visions
may have been shaped by Brazilian sensibilities,
new layers of meaning exist as a result of their
transitions to New York society. - Carole
Perry
A
full color catalog will be available with an introduction
by art historian Claudia
Calirman and essays by Carole
Perry.
A
Gallery Talk with artist Thessia
Machado and professor/lecturer
Claudia
Calirman is scheduled for
2pm during the opening reception on Sunday, March
5.
