A New Art & Nature Exhibition-based School Field Trip

Teachers – RoCA invites you to bring your classes to our visually exciting and content rich new exhibition, Nature Inc.   This inter-active exhibition tour and hands-on workshop program is recommended  for  grades 2 through 12.   The program will introduce your students to the work of artists who reimagine, recreate and repurpose nature to surprising,  beautiful and environmentally relevant effect.   After the tour with RoCA’s Museum Educator, your students will be invited to respond to the work on view by creating their own nature-based artworks in RoCA’s studios using a variety of natural materials.

Participating artists include Pat Hickman, whose wall-sized installation mimics the currents of the Hudson using “river teeth” the uniquely shaped remains of trees that have fallen into river.  Catherine Latson fashions stunning gowns blazing with the saturated colors of marigolds and costumes laden with ghostly sea shells.  Norm Magnuson’s massive imaginative photographs turn leaves into rainbows of color and plants into peacocks.   Carla Goldberg  and Tatana Kellner’s kinetic artworks reimagine the element of water while making powerful visual statements about the effects of human activities on the environment.   Also on view is an animated video, When Winter Comes, that follows the life cycle from a bee’s perspective.   Artists John Morton and Jackie Shatz combine computer manipulated elements that bring to life the sounds of Galapagos wildlife while a fanciful version of Darwin’s ship sails on a rolling gossamer sea.   These and six additional artists use light, sound, video, growing crystals, moss, leaves, paint and sculpture for an unforgettable experience your students will learn from and love.

The exhibition is on view from March 1st through April 12TH, 2015.  The fee is $250 per class with all supplies included.
