For serious wheel throwing and handbuilding students who wish to continue to improve their skills in a structured and supportive atmosphere.  Both group and individual instruction are emphasized. Please bring a notebook to the first class.

A creative approach to the art of pottery.  Discover new techniques while learning the basics of hand building and tilemaking. The emphasis is on developing individual projects and styles.

Students will expand on basic skills by learning how to use unusual forms and altering methods in both non-functional and functional work.  All levels will develop at their own pace in a supportive environment.

Wheel Throwing for Beginners
Jim Shaughnessy    $515 / senior $495 (plus $50 clay/firing fee (per brick)

Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, students learn to throw on the wheel to create beautiful pots for the table, kitchen and garden. Students will be introduced to a range of decorating techniques using slips, wax resist, glazes and on-glaze painting. The class will encourage students to experiment and look at both historical and contemporary pottery for inspiration.

Registration for this class begins November 12 @ 10am

This course will cover basic handbuilding and wheel throwing skills.  Let’s discover what method is most suited to create the work that best pleases your aesthetic sensibility.  Both wheel throwing and handbuilding demonstrations will be given. There will be one-on-one attention for those of you pursuing a more advanced agenda.  This will be an engaging experience for beginning and beyond artists looking to work in ceramics.

A creative approach to the art of pottery.  Discover new techniques while learning the basics of handbuilding and tilemaking.  Explore coil, pinch, and slab methods and the use of the extruder.  The emphasis is on developing individual projects and styles.  Projects explore working in a series, glaze experimentation, and surface design techniques.

NEW! Ceramics for Families (ages 5 & up)

Enjoy exploring handbuilding and sculpting with clay along with your child, grandchild, niece, nephew… you get the idea: Bring a child (or two) and come play with clay! First-timers are welcome! Ages 5 and up. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult family member.
