Welcome to the Ceramic Studio
The Ceramic Studio is fully equipped with 9 electric wheels, 2 kick wheels, a slab roller and an extruder. The Center also has outstanding firing facilities, which include 3 electric kilns, a gas kiln, Raku kiln and our new wood firing kiln. Clay can be purchased for $30 a brick (must be purchased at the Center) which includes glazing and firing. Please bring a towel and tools to class. Some tools are available for purchase in the Ceramics Studio. Free benchtime is provided for adult students currently enrolled in a course. Benchtime begins the second week of class and schedules are posted on our Ceramic Studio door. The benchtime schedule is subject to change.

All About Clay (all levels)
This class focuses on creativity while developing a solid foundation of ceramic skills. Participants work on individual projects and styles with an emphasis on handbuilding. Projects will incorporate techniques such as coil, pinch and slabs and use of the extruder. Students will also have the opportunity to explore marbleized, colored and paper clay. An optional group project is offered.

Exploring Clay
A structured approach to the art of pottery. Discover new techniques while learning the basics of handbuilding and tilemaking. Explore coil, pinch and slab methods and use of the extruder. The emphasis is on developing individual projects and styles.

Wheel Throwing for Beginners
Students learn to throw on the wheel using earthenware clay. Pots will be decorated with slips and clear glazes or with colored stains on a white background in the style of Majolica. Historical examples of earthenware pots will be discussed to demonstrate the wide range of possibilities using these simple materials and techniques.

Wheel Throwing (beginning/intermediate)
For beginners or for those who want to improve their wheel throwing and/or handbuilding skills. An overview of the entire ceramic process will be introduced, including glazing and firing techniques.

Wheel Throwing (all levels)
Students of all levels receive a thorough foundation in working on the wheel. As they become more proficient, the focus is on form, decoration and glazing; developing a personal style is inevitable! Classes begin with a demonstration followed by individual help as each student progresses at her or his own pace. Experienced or beginners, all are welcome.

Wheel Thrown Pottery (intermediate/advanced)
Learn how to make pots on the wheel that meet the demands of both use and aesthetics. Students will explore the use of slips, glazes and on-glaze decoration. This class relies heavily on "team spirit" to load and fire the gas kiln. Students should plan to devote time beyond class hours learning to mix glazes, fire kilns and refine their skills. Advanced Clay Work
For serious wheel throwing and handbuilding students who wish to continue to improve their skills in a structured and supportive atmosphere. Both group and individual instruction is emphasized. All-inclusive critiques of both work in progress and finished work will be scheduled during class time on a periodic basis. Students will formulate glaze texts as a part of the class. Please bring a notebook to the first class.

Raku Workshops
These one-day workshops explore the process of Raku, an ancient Japanese art of firing ceramic ware. Various reduction materials such as sawdust, paper, hay to produce unique iridescent effects on quickly heated pottery. Bring 6-7 pieces of bisque-pottery to fire. Call for teacheršs phone # for further instructions. Dress for outdoor weather.

Decorative Arts

Stained Glass - Windows for Beginners/ Lamps for Advanced
This stained glass course is geared for the serious beginner or advanced student. The techniques of the craft and the proper tools are stressed. By the completion of the course beginning students should be able to assemble a stained glass window using the Tiffany copper foil techniques. Advanced students will learn to assemble stained glass lamps. Students purchase their own materials with guidance from the instructor. Specially priced tool kits range from $125 to $155.

Hip Knitting for Beginners

Knitting is hot, hot HOT! This 3-session course will introduce basic methods of casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, yarn change and casting off. These beginneršs projects are a pair of knit stitched wristbands, seed stitched mini bag, and a hat using circular needles. Bring a friend and get yourself knitting! Earring Workshop
Curious about basic jewelry construction? Just looking for an afternoon to play? Join us for an afternoon of creative fun and make as many as youšd like. Wešll cover a variety of dangle pierced earrings including basic dangle, multi-strand drop, and chandalier earrings. Information about clip-on earrings will be available as well. $10 materials fee for instructor plus class list.

Introduction to Beading

Making your own jewelry is fun! This 3-session course will get you going on beaded earrings, plus stringing bracelets, anklets, necklaces and leashes for glasses. Basic design info, resources and just plain good ideas also abound in these sessions. A materials list will be sent upon registration.

Polymer Jewels
In this class, we will make wonderful and colorful beads,, earrings, pendants and charms out of Sculpey III polymer clay, which can be hardened in any toaster oven. The class will learn how to roll out, sculpt and mold the clay into artistic pieces for their jewelry collections. We will learn how to make mille-fleur cranes, marbleized colors and several other processes with poly clay. This is an art that may be pursued at home once the class is completed. A materials list will be sent upon registration.

Soldered Charms
Try your hand at soldering and produce a metal and glass charm decoration. Wešll encase a very small collage or a photograph in glass and use lead-free solder to close it up. An important technique to use for jewelry making or stained glass work. Bring photos and/or paper ephemera to encase. Materials fee: $15.00 to instructor.

Beaded Cuffs
Beaded Wire Cuff: Create this impressive cuff with a multitude of seed beads, buttons and charms by attaching them to a wire armature. Wire can be purchased from instructor and supply list will be provided for other items.

Glass Bead Workshops
An introduction to the process of making lampworked glass beads. Students make their own beads with the traditional methods used by the Venetians for centuries. Students learn through demonstrations and individualized instruction. Enrollment limited to 6.
